Well-known locals are finding a good reason to take off their clothes — and get their photos taken while naked.
For almost 10 years, the Vail “Undressed” Calendar has been a popular purchase in the valley. Eagerly snatched up to see who the bold and beautiful bods are, the clever fundraiser has brought in the bucks for the Vail Valley Charitable Fund. Photos take place around the valley (and sometimes in studios), but always feature handsome hunks and lovely locals in beautiful settings of the Vail Valley.

Eagle County Charter Academy Gala

The night was definitely spooky. Vampires and ghouls wandered among more than one Sarah Palin and one or two Obamas and McCains at the annual Eagle County Charter Academy fundraiser, held Oct. 24 at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek.
This year, the Ultimate Halloween Gala welcomed guests to “A Night in Transylvania.” Chair Dawn Harker, assisted by co-chair Jenn Berger, made sure the decor was hauntingly horrific, with flickering candelabras and low-flying bats. “Bram Stoker” tables included Mafi Wood Floors, Gordon, Hughes & Banks, LLP, The Beaver Creek Resort Company and the Vail Daily.

Senior Jubilee Fundraiser

The seniors from the Golden Eagle Senior Center in Eagle gathered last week for a fundraiser, sharing some good-humored ribbing and entertainment.
The Eagle Seniors kicked off their shoes for a knee-sock kick line and later performed as a choir. And the fashion show was certainly more fun than fashion.
Headed up by Kathy Dunn-Lewis and Cheryl Thomas, the county RSVP program coordinator, the event raised around $3,500 to go toward programs offered through the Senior Center, located at 715 Broadway in Eagle, with additional centers in El Jebel and Minturn. The money from the event was earmarked for the Senior Travel Fund, which goes toward the annual vacation, this year to Atlanta.

September skiing

September is usually the last month of summer weather. Most people still enjoy the warmth by riding bikes, hiking, fishing, or anything non-snow related.
However, there are a handful of people who can't get enough of skiing or snowboarding and trek up to St. Mary's Glacier near Idaho Springs to feel their boards hit the snow before any Colorado ski resorts open for the season.

The fundraiser was “Science on the Green,” a fundraiser for the Gore Range Natural Science School. The modified scramble meant each foursome could use the best drive and play from there. Each entrant had the opportunity to buy up to three “Marmots,” which equaled one stroke as soon as their ball was on the green.

Wild West Wine Tasting 2008

For the third year in the row, the Wild Wine Tasting was a sellout as the “prequel” to Wild West Days, the rowdy fundraiser for Eagle County elementary schools.
Once again, Balata at the Sonnenalp in Singletree hosted the event, held on Thursday, Sept. 25. Tony Mauro was the auctioneer for the live segment, which raised nearly $20,000. Riverwalk Wine and Spirits sponsored the event, and Beverly DeMoss was happy to pour many specialty wines available from their store.
